In the Euthyphro, Socrates approaches the court where he will be tried on charges of atheism and corrupting the young. On the way he meets Euthyphro, an expert in religious matters. Euthyphro is at the court to bring charges against his own father, and when Socrates asks how he can justify his actions, he appeals to religion. Socrates challenges Euthyphro's claim that morality should be based on religion. The dialogue that ensues is directly relevant to human life today.
